Curriculum

The Temple Emanu El Religious School is divided into 4 blocks:

  • Mechina (Preparation or Readiness)   Grades Kindergarten - 2

    These classes meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

  • Basis (Base) Grades 3-4

    These classes meet twice a week; once on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and once during the week. Student in Grades 3 & 4 attend on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:45 p.m.

  • Gesher (Bridge or Transition)   Grade 5-6

    These classes meet twice a week; once on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and once during the week on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:45 p.m.

  • TEEn Kolel (High School)   Grades 7-12.

    Students in Grades 7-12 meet on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Students eat dinner together and then study both specific grade level curriculum and sign up for contemporary topics of interest. There are also opportunities to participate in youth group meetings and activities during this time.

  • Etgar

    The Etgar program of the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland provides supplemental religious education to any Jewish student in the greater Cleveland area who is not able to learn in the regular congregational setting. 

  • Hadrachah

    Our Hadrachah (Leadership) Program provides the opportunity for teens in Grades 7-12 to work as madrichim (teaching assistants) in our K-6 classrooms on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Through the Hadrachah Program, teens will not only develop important leadership skills and gain valuable work experience, but will also cultivate a sense of ownership over our Religious School program and serve as meaningful role models for our younger students.
