Welcome to Temple Emanu El

It truly is an honor and a privilege to serve as the President of our wonderful Temple Emanu El. I look forward to a year filled with inspiration, hopefulness, energy, celebrations, spiritual connections, and engagement.

Temple Emanu El means so much to my family and me.  I hope over the years that you too will benefit as greatly as I have from your involvement and relationship with this wonderful congregation.

My parents joined Temple Emanu El soon after they were married and since then, my sister and I were baby named, consecrated, confirmed, and married at Temple Emanu El.  Our kids are proud preschool graduates and were also baby named, consecrated, became B’nai Mitzvah, confirmed, and became high school graduates of Temple Emanu El.  My great niece is now a proud student of TEE Preschool.  My grandmas became devoted, proud members too in their later years, as did my in-laws, so Temple Emanu El has joyfully touched the lives of 5 generations of my family.  This Congregation has been home to all of our blessed simchas and has been there for our difficult times as well. So many people from Temple Emanu El have  touched and bettered my family’s lives, which gave me the inspiration to take on this role after being a Board and Executive Committee member for most of the past 20 years.

We offer so much here at Temple Emanu El, and you can find what pulls at your heart, what brings you fun and laughter, or what stimulates your mind, without having to look too hard.  Sign up to help with one of these goings-on or just participate.  When you are able to participate and help with making decisions, no matter the size, your sense of ownership and engagement will increase.  We offer a wide array of adult education classes, Torah study, book discussions, fun programming, receptions before each Shabbat Service, events for families of young children, the amazing advocacy and speaker programs  — the list is endless. If there is something else that you are yearning to see offered at Temple Emanu El, reach out to me and let’s talk.

I urge you to join me and show up. Show up at services. Show up at educational programs. Show up at our social justice series. Show up at our social and fundraising events.  This is our Congregation, and with everyone’s involvement, we can do great things if we all work together.  I look forward to our time together this coming year and beyond.

If you are not a member of Temple Emanu El, come visit and let us welcome you and show off our beautiful spiritual home.

Don’t Wait: Life Lessons for the High Holidays from 88-Year-Old Reb Murray

Don’t Wait: Life Lessons for the High Holidays from 88-Year-Old Reb Murray jstern July 27, 2021

Meet 88-year-old Murray, an astounding man. Quiet, sometimes reserved, Murray became my father-in-law 31 years ago, when God softly whispered to me, “Don’t wait.” I confess I didn’t appreciate him fully until recently.
